Discover Who We Are

A community-driven organisation of local trekking guides who are dedicated to sustainable tourism in Sandakphu-Phalut and the Singalila National Park.

Community of local guides

Our Origins & History

The names Maneybhanjyang, Sandakphu, and Phalut have been part of history since the 19th century, appearing in records like the Calcutta Gazette and books by British officials. Once considered remote and insignificant, this region has grown into one of the most sought-after trekking destinations.

Trekking here wasn’t always organized. In the early days, young locals would guide travelers informally. Things changed in 2001 when the West Bengal Forest Department introduced an Eco-tourism training program, leading to the formation of Nature’s Guide of Singalila National Park.

By 2004, with the support of the late Madan Tamang, the group officially became the Society for Highlander Guides and Porters Welfare Association—a step toward making trekking safer, more professional, and eco-friendly.

How it all began
