Highlander Guides and Porters Welfare Association is an association formed by the group of guides and porters of Maneybhanjyang and surrounding villagers. These guides are trained and registered under Wildlife Division of Forest Department of West Bengal. As the trekking area falls under Singalila National Park, It is Mandatory/compulsory to take trained and registered guides those who visit/trek in the Singalila National Park. (Sandakphu and Phalut Trek).

Highlander Guides and Porters Welfare Association are situated at Maneybhanjyang. The Association itself has been registered under West Bengal Act XXVI of 1961. It’s registration No. is S/1L/19968 of 2003-2004 and has been named as “Society For Highlander Guides and Porters Welfare Association”. It was established on 2001. There are about 40 registered and trained guides of wildlife forest department and about 80 registered porters in the Association.ALL these guides & porters are trained from WILDLIFE DEPTT. AND they have a good knowledge regarding the flora and fauna of the national park,about the mountains,culture of the local people,livelihood of the surrounding people,economic condition of the people,most importantly they have a good knowledge of the trekking route as because there is also a katcha jeepable road which most of the visitors believes these road as the trekking route and many guide book has also suggested this route as the trekking route .Infact the trekking route and the jeeaple route are different.THE TREKKING ROUTE IS INSIDE the forest .The objective or motive to form this association is to provide employment to the local people & the government(WILDLIFE DIVISION UNDER FOREST DEPTT.) is also helping this ASSOCIATION for these purpose ,because the SINGALILA NATIONAL PARK(SANDAKPHU & PHALUT) is a very big national park and only the forest guards are not sufficient for the conservation of the park,so with the help of local people the government conserve the park as well local people can make their livelihood through the trekking in this park.

HIGHLANDER Guides & Porters Welfare Association is run by a group of executive body from the members itself .The executive body is comprised of :


The time period of this executive body is two years.This executive body and all the members are bond with the rules and regulation of the A SSOCIATION,which has been passed in the General meeting of Association.The General meeting is held every year and there is quarterly meeting also.The violation of the Association RULES & REGULATION by the members & executive body is prohibited,if any one is found guilty,they will be dealt strictly with the punishment according to ASSOCIATION ACT.

Generate - Conserve - Promote - Support - Educate

1.To Generate Self-Employment.

2.To Conserve and Protect the Flora and Fauna of Singalila National Park.

3.To Promote Village Tourism in and around the unexplored and remote Villages.

4.To Support the local community and imporve their socio-economic condition.

5.To Educate and Help the Tourist /Visitors to the Singalila National Park.
